Over the Labor Day weekend I decided to try out Kumihimo braiding. If you're not familiar with it it's a Japanese braiding technique for making detailed cords. That's about all I know of it, though my guild had a presentation with Andrienne Gaskell back in October 2020, follow the link if interested. Back in March or June I purchased the Kaleidoscope Adventure from Lunatic Fringe Yarns which to me is the most fun online purchase you can buy! It's a box filled with fantastic yarns, patterns, tools, and anything else that might fit their theme for the month. Well I ended up with a Kumihimo disk and a pattern, which made me laugh because it was one of the crafts I said I would never do because "I'm going to focus on weaving only." Ha! Well, a lazy weekend was on the schedule and so... I learned Kumihimo. Which was a lot of fun because it was so fast and it used my leftover yarns from weaving. You know, those yarns that are too short to weave anything with but too long to throw away. Well I've been keeping them and slowly putting them on embroidery discs which means I have a lot of leftover yarn. Thus, I got to make several braids. After one was finished I had to make more since it was so easy. I even played with where I placed the colors to see what would happen. It was a lot of fun messing around with this craft. Not sure it will replace my embroidery during TV time but it definitely used a lot of leftover weaving yarn super fast. However, now I have several cords that I have no idea what to do with. All well, it was still entertaining whether I use them or not.
And finally my extreme close up.
