This month has been a whirl wind and it has left me a bit depleted but alas I finally beamed a warp so I think I may be on the path to finding balance soon. My project is most likely just yardage since that is my favorite thing to weave. But I do have ideas of it turning into a vest at some future time. The draft is a simple block profile I made up and am using a Summer and Winter X-style draft. Honestly, I don't think I'm using the summer and winter draft to it's fullest potential but this is my first time using summer and winter and I love experimenting. Like I said super simple but I wanted a border framing the yarns I purchased while in Canada. So the blue areas will be a gold/tan yarn and then the center will be this crazy confetti yarn. Then when it is stitched together in a vest there is either a wonder seam allowance or an artistic frame at the seams. Also, while messing around with the size of my loom and the size of the yarns I realized that one side of the framed box could be larger for the front sections giving it an nice lapel. Wow, this is really seeming more like a vest project than a yardage project. Guess I better be ready to start sewing when I'm done weaving. As for the color I purchased a crazy confetti yarn. Then when I brought it home and started staring at the colors I realized all the colors are going to meld together and create an intensely ugly brown color. But alas I love fall colors and this yarn picks up the best splashes of fall tones. That is an especially strange way of saying I love the pinks, light blues, maroons, and gold flecks. Well, since it's all going to meld into a brown color I figured I would help it along and maybe see if I can pull the brown into more of a gold. That's also why I ended up choosing the summer and winter draft since it will allow me to put a gold thread in between each confetti yarn toss thus giving a solid background of gold. Well, maybe not exactly solid gold. Since I don't have enough of the cotton gold thread for both background and warp I had to go into my stash to find the warp. I decided on some of my natural colored cotton zig-zag yarn I had on the bottom shelf looking all lonely. Hopefully, with a zig-zag yarn as warp it will let the slubs of color in the main yarn continue to play and be corky! But we'll see... My last feature for any piece is the design. Which on this piece I think seemed to be all about letting the crazy confetti yarn sing, so it is apart of every aspect of the piece. The project is meant as a simple rectangle forcing you to look at the yarns. The draft is Summer and winter with the yarn as pattern, and done in x-style to keep your eye actively moving through the piece in a diagonal path. The colors of the main yarn are reminiscent of an Alphonse Mucha painting and thus earthen gold & tan are there to pull the specialty yarn into a golden hue. Well, now on to threading the heddles and seeing what happens with the cloth.
